Latest Regulations on Electronic Rearview Mirrors for Trucks! What Do You Think About This?
On July 1, 2023, GB 15084-2022 "Performance and Installation Requirements for Indirect Vision Devices for Motor Vehicles" was officially implemented. The definition of the new national standard for electronic rearview mirrors includes high-definition cameras, digital vision processing systems, etc. In terms of function, the electronic rearview mirror will have a certain intersection with blind spot monitoring, parallel assistance, ADAS camera, etc., which can provide drivers with more comprehensive decision-making assistance.
This marks that the new equipment of electronic rear-view mirror will be officially legalized in China's automobile market. Now that identity is legal, let's talk about this new technology. Note that an electronic rearview mirror is not the same as a traditional camera.
Electronic rear-view mirror (CMS-Camera-Monitor-System) is used to replace the traditional optical rear-view mirror of the car, the traditional rear-view mirror is a mandatory part of the regulations, so new regulations must be promulgated to ensure that the car installed with CMS products is legal on the road, this is the case abroad, and this is also the case at home.
The electronic rearview mirror officially entered the global vision around 2016, and the earliest Mecron, Faxai and European vehicle manufacturing companies began to try product technology and exploration. On July 11, 2016, the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe ECE R46 Uniform Regulations for Vehicle rearview Mirrors and Certification of vehicles equipped with rearview Mirrors was updated for the sixth edition to allow the use of automotive electronic rearview mirror systems instead of traditional optical mirrors.
If the prototype of electronic rear-view mirror technology, the timeline can be pulled back to the 1990s, in 1997, Volvo has launched in the Brazilian market completely eliminate the rear-view mirror bus; In 2008, Mercedes-Benz launched the electronic rearview mirror project, which was jointly completed by Mecron AG and Bosch Group.
The real timeline for electronic rearview mirrors to enter the world is 2016, when the ECE R46 regulation was expanded. In 2018, Mercedes-Benz officially released a New generation of the New Actros tractor in Germany, and it was simultaneously displayed at the 2018 Hannover booth. The New generation of New Actros tractors brings a number of upgrades, one of which is the "MirrorCam" electronic rearview mirror.
At the same time, at the 2018IAA Hannover Motor Show, an electronic rearview mirror system, then called the Rearview Mirror Replacement System, was also introduced on the then all-electric, low-entry concept truck Man CitE. At the same time, Mekra, the world's leading manufacturer of vision systems for the commercial vehicle industry, further demonstrated its new solutions in the field of electronic rearview mirrors at the 2018IAA Motor Show.
In the following time, electronic rearview mirror technology has blossomed all over the market in Europe, and the technology has also ushered in further upgrades. These include the second generation MirrorCam electronic rearview mirror system for Mercedes-Benz trucks and the "zero dead Angle" OptiView electronic rearview mirror system for Man trucks.
