Explanation of Installation Positions for Vehicle ADAS, DSM, and BSD Cameras
1. Installation of DMS Cameras
DSM cameras can detect and alert unsafe driving behaviors. By monitoring changes in the eyes and facial expressions, it identifies any unsafe driving behavior of the driver and provides corresponding voice prompts.
Unsafe driving behaviors include:
a. Fatigue: yawning, closing eyes
b. Phone usage
c. Distracted driving: looking around, lowering the head
d. Smoking
e. Driver anomaly: driver leaving the line of sight
The installation of DMS cameras should adhere to the following principles:
Installation Position: It is recommended to install on the center console or dashboard.
Installation Angle: Ensure it is within a range of 30° to the right of the driver's straight ahead view, with a smaller angle being preferable.
Installation Distance: The distance between the camera and the face should be in the range of 60cm to 120cm, with around 80cm being recommended.
Ensure the face is in the center of the DMS camera (can be confirmed through a mobile app).
Ensure the DMS camera does not obstruct the driver's line of sight or interfere with driving.
Ensure there is no obstruction by the steering wheel or other items between the DMS camera and the driver's face.
Keep the DMS camera horizontally level without tilting.
With the above conditions met, a smaller deviation angle between the DMS camera and the driver's face is better, ideally facing the driver directly.
2. Installation of ADAS Cameras
ADAS cameras provide warnings for lane departure and collisions. They monitor proper use of turn signals when changing lanes, provide lane departure warnings based on the degree of deviation during vehicle movement, and calculate collision warning levels based on real-time speed.
For small vehicles (such as passenger cars, ride-sharing cars), the front-view (ADAS) camera should be installed in the upper middle part of the windshield, just below the rearview mirror, within a range of 10cm on either side of the vehicle's centerline (see Figure 3). Note: The lens should not be blocked by windshield wipers.
For medium to large vehicles (such as commercial vehicles like buses, dump trucks), the front-view (ADAS) camera should be installed in the middle-bottom part of the windshield, close to the bottom, within 10cm on either side of the vehicle's centerline (see Figure 4). Note: The lens should not be blocked by windshield wipers.
After determining the position, remove the 3M sticker, fix the camera on the front windshield, adjust the camera position using the knob to ensure that half of the ADAS image is sky and the other half is ground. Tighten the limiting screw after adjusting.
3. Installation of BSD Cameras and Sound-Light Alarms
BSD cameras and sound-light alarms monitor blind spots and provide warnings when pedestrians approach.
Detecting pedestrians or bicycles in blind spots:
a. Vertical distance of pedestrians or bicycles in the detection area of the image
b. Lateral distance of pedestrians or bicycles in the detection area of the image
c. Pedestrians or bicycles entering the detection area from the rear
d. Pedestrians or bicycles entering the detection area from the side
e. Pedestrians or bicycles entering the detection area head-on
Sound-light alarms activate when pedestrians are too close, reminding both the driver and pedestrians to be cautious.
The BSD camera is a starlight camera, displaying original colors at night.
a. Side-facing BSD cameras are generally used on medium to large vehicles with large blind spots, such as dump trucks and large trucks. Install the camera at the rear edge of the blind spot (side-facing BSD is recommended to be installed on the right rear side), about 1.8 meters above the ground. Adjust the camera angle slightly outward and downward to cover most of the blind spots without the vehicle body occupying more than 25% of the image.
b. Forward-facing BSD cameras are also used on large vehicles, typically installed above the windshield cover. The installation position should be as central as possible. The camera extension line should pass through the bottom of the vehicle, fixed by the frame itself, without interference with the bucket or mixing tank to avoid affecting the wires during unloading or mixing.
c. Sound-light alarms should be installed outside the front passenger seat door, close to the window, ensuring clear reception of voice alerts by pedestrians and simultaneous consideration for the driver to hear the alarm.
4. Notes on Camera Installation
Do not touch the camera lens with hands or other objects during the installation process.
After installation, remember to tighten the limiting screw.
After installation, be sure to remove the lens protection film.
After installation, ensure that the front cover of the ADAS camera is tightly combined with the camera. If not, adjust it.
After calibration and adjustment, recheck the camera.
