Attention to Truck Turns

There are a thousand roads, but safety comes first. The road conditions that truck drivers encounter on a daily basis can change at any moment. Therefore, it's essential to stay vigilant, observe more, and be attentive. Especially during turns, the following points should be noted to ensure safe driving. Remember these and ensure worry-free driving.

Turns on Flat Roads

When driving on flat roads, where road resistance is low, vehicles tend to accelerate easily. Before entering a curve, ease off the accelerator pedal in advance to smoothly reduce speed. During the turn, choose the right moment and speed based on road width, curve radius, and traffic conditions. Pay attention to coordinating the steering wheel's rotation speed with the vehicle's speed.

Blind Spot Turns

If you cannot see the end of a curve, reduce your speed and do not proceed as you would on a regular curve. When turning left, drive along the outside of the curve; when turning right, drive along the inside of the curve.

Compound Curve Turns

The key to safe turns is to ensure you're positioned well for the final curve to exit quickly. Start by reducing your speed and entering the entrance of the first curve. On each curve, drive on the outside, inside, and then outside again. You can slightly accelerate between curves. When passing through the final curve, correct your direction once you see the exit.

Inner Wheel Offset

Inner wheel offset refers to the phenomenon where the turning radius of the inner front wheel and inner rear wheel does not align. This difference between the turning radii of the inner front and rear wheels is called inner wheel offset.

Accidents caused by inner wheel offset are numerous. Therefore, before making a turn with a truck, slow down in a timely manner and observe the surroundings. Proceed with caution, maintain a low speed, and pay attention to the area around the vehicle to ensure there are no hazards before continuing. This can help to some extent in avoiding such accidents.

Choose larger turns whenever possible, maintaining a safe distance from sidewalks and curbs.

Consider installing blind spot cameras or convex mirrors to reduce blind spots. Pay extra attention while driving.

Since longer wheelbases result in greater differences between the turning radii of the front and rear of the vehicle, the front of the vehicle requires a larger turning angle. Therefore, when driving, be sure to slow down and proceed with caution when turning.
